spawn · new here
New here? Start here.·
spawn is where you make a game. You start from a starter game that already works, change it until it is yours, and share it on Spawn Point for everyone to play. You never start from nothing unless you want to.
Your first game in five steps·
Sign in, then the studio's four stations, left to right. The numbers are the ones at the top of the studio.
-
before you start
Sign in·
Type your student ID and PIN, the same ones as glitch and launch. Your game is kept on the server: make it at home, and it is there at school. -
01 pick
Pick a starter game·
Never made a game? Pick Starter. Want an empty page? Pick Blank. Otherwise pick the one closest to the game in your head: a platformer, a maze, a shooter, a clicker, a 3D mansion. -
02 design
Design it·
Five lines in your words: the name, the goal, who you are, how you win, how you lose. Player two reads them before every change. Come back to 02 design any time, even after the game is done. -
03 make
Make it yours·
The knobs change speed, lives, colors and words. The five rooms change the rest: Art, The map, Sound, Layout and The code. Anything without a knob, ask player two. knobsArtThe mapSoundLayoutThe codeplayer two -
04 ship
Ship it·
Run the exact code plays the game the way Spawn Point will. Then Share my game puts it in the lobby and gives you a link and a QR code.
How do I...·
Keep my game at home and at school? Sign in, at home and at school. The mark at the top right says Saved to the server when your game is kept. If it says Not saved to the server yet, the server cannot be reached, and your changes wait on this computer until it can.
Make my game start? Click the game once so it hears the keyboard, then press SPACE.
Undo a mistake? Undo under the game (Ctrl Z) takes back the last change, and Redo puts it back. The number beside them opens your history: every change in words. To go further back, open the game menu and pick Earlier copies.
Change what my player looks like? Open the Art room and click the player's card. Pick a picture from the library, draw your own, upload one, or ask player two to draw it.
Find a picture or a sound? Press Find in the top bar, or the / key, and type what you want: castle, laser, space.
Add sounds and music? Open the Sound room. Each slot is a moment in your game, like catch or you win. The Music row at the top loops all game: make a song, build a quick beat, pick a track, or upload one.
Ask player two for help? Player two is Claude, on the right side of the studio. Type what you want, like make the player jump higher or why does my score not go up?. A change comes back as lines you keep or drop. Nothing changes until you say so.
Get my design lines back? If a code change took them out, 02 design has a button: Put the design lines back. Your game does not change.
Share my game? Press Share my game on 04 ship. It goes in the lobby, and you get a link anyone can open. Send the link, never the file.
